ACTT is responsible for providing authoritative advice on the criteria that institutions are required to meet to carry titles such as "university” or "community college" etc in accordance with the provisions under Act no.16 of 2004. Approval must be granted by ACTT for the use of appropriate titles that are consistent with international practice. This applies to institutions who were established after the Act was proclaimed in 2004 and to those who wish to change their name.
There are four categories through which the organizational structure of an institution will be reviewed for the decision of conferment of title. For each of these four categories, specific criteria have been developed to guide the assessment.
