ACTT hosted 2nd International Conference on Higher Education and Training

The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) hosted its 2nd International Conference on Higher Education and Training at the HYATT Regency Trinidad, Port-of-Spain from April 15 – Apr 17, 2015. Under the theme ‘Thinking Global, Acting Local: The Changing Realities of Higher Education and Training’, ACTT’s aim was to provide a forum to share internationally accepted best practices, present research findings and review recent developments impacting on higher education including skills development.

Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim

Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training (MTEST) was the keynote speaker on April 15, 2015. Senator Karim presented a paper entitled:- ‘Beyond participation: Building the global citizen’.

  • Professor Asha Singh Kanwar – President and Chief Executive Officer, Commonwealth of Learning – Topic - “The Impact of Online and Distance Education on the Development of Higher Education and Training” 
  • Dorothy Wax – Associate Vice-President for Operations, Council for Adult and Experiential Learning – Topic – “Competency Based Education: Promises and Challenges” 
  • Francisco Marmolejo – Tertiary Education Coordinator, The World Bank – Topic – The Changing Realities of Higher Education: Perspectives from the World Bank” 
  • Nicole Smith – Research Professor and Senior Economist, Center on Education and the Workforce, Georgetown University – Topic – “Aligning Programmes with Labour Market Needs” 
  • Stephen Jackson – Director of Quality Assurance, Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education – Topic - “Transnational Education in Trinidad and Tobago”

 ACTT signs MoU with the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education

At the formal opening ceremony, ACTT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). This MoU allows for the establishment and promotion of international best practices in quality assurance systems governing education and training locally.
